Welcome to our short review of the Korean sci-fi action movie Space Sweepers
What’s this movie about?
We follow the crew of the Victory, a junker ship who travels through space looking for junk to sell.
One day drew leader Tae-ho discovers a stow-away on his ship, a young girl called Dorothy. She is all over the news, reported as carrying a hydrogen bomb which could destroy anything within the vicinity.
She’s worth a lot of money, and since Tae-ho and his crew owe a lot to various organisations, so they arrange her sale back to her father, but things go wrong when Sullivan, the leader of UTS, the corporation terraforming Mars, finds out. He has his own plans for Dorothy, and won’t let anyone get in his way.
Is it Worth Watching?
It certainly is a pretty and spectacular movie, from a visual effects point of view. These kinds of science fiction space movies are not the types of movies you expect from Asia, let alone Korea, with perhaps the exception of Japanese animation.
Storyline, the movie is very easy to follow, with a few exceptions mostly being in the character backstory department.
Speaking of characters, they’re your typical motley crew, a bunch of misfits who have banded together with an unbeknownst to each other common goal.
Some negatives however manifest in the English-and-French speaking acting sections and the lack of finer detail in the story component.
As someone who doesn’t watch movies like this, I actually found myself enjoying the rather long ride this movie took me on.
And I rate movies on if I enjoyed them, so this gets a thumbs up for that.
